In case you didn't know, there's a 34 minute FREE at this show, and
you should check it out if you are a fan of Phish's exploratory
improvisation.
YEM's opening is very standard. Nirvana at 2:30 (no pre-Nirvana
build
to speak of, strangely). The Nirvana section is actually kinda
blah..
Trey isn't that solid. Mike's solo section is spooky and dark
as it
sometimes is, but nothing unusually impressive transpires. The
pre-charge section is powerful, and Trey hits the first Note right
on
and jams around it modestly. Second shot at the Note isn't that
great.. not sustained well at all.
"Boy" at 6:02. Trey employs some wah wah in the WUDMTF segment.
Decent segment.. a little more active than usual. Tramps segment
at
18:18... Page is playing well, signals from Mike. Phaaat groove
from
Fish. Trey sustains and chords a little bit
before breaking out noodling around 9:40. Very nice funky groove
around 10 minutes, with Mike and Fish phaaatly providing a nice bottom
to Trey's melodious noodling. Damn, Mike really FUNKS IT UP loooow
in
this jam segment. This somewhat quiet groove ends at 11:15, when
a
raucous True YEM jam kicks in! An excellent closing minute to
the jam
segment.. very fine jamming, but nothing so unusually gripping as to
demand acclaim.
B&D at 13:48, and Mike is very active, snapping that damn 'doc.
Mike
just tears it up...
Closing WUDMTF segment at 15:04. Audience clapping.. vocal jam
kicks
in. The audience clapping changes time a bit, it sounds like.
The
vocal jam is upbeat... before dissolving into typical vocal mayhem
around 17 minutes thanks to Trey. Nice harmonizing at the very
end.
Total time 19:45. Short for 1994-6 I'd say, and easily a YEM
to be
dismissed in light of most recent versions (as my dismissive "review"
should attest). C+ rating.
