This is such a fantastic show (and an extremely high quality DAUD),
even though it ends lamely!  YEM follows a spectacular PYITE, Sparkle,
Gin > Lifeboy, Cities run of songs... I was just listening to the SBD
of this version of Cities (well, SBD>FM Broadcast.. 8/15/96 Ball Radio),
and that version is Total Schwag next to this dank daud.  It is
actually amusing to consider the difference...

Very spacey pre-Nirvana segment, in which the Vibration of Life
appears to work around 2:50 or so (briefly, though).  Nothing too
special...  Nirvana at 3:21, and Page's piano playing is
mahvelous..typically delightful, cheery.. aaaahhhhhh Page..  Mike's
solo section at 4:07 is somewhat curious.. odd.  Not terribly active,
but sufficiently melodious to communicate a "What the --" sort of
reaction. ;)  The pre-charge section flows quite smoothly, with some
groovy effects from Trey before each shot at the Note (some sort of
FLANGE or something).  DOH!!! The first shot at the Note was
heinously botched for about a second.. Trey quickly corrected things,
but still.. doh..  Jamming before the second shot at the Note is
totally standard.. the second Note isn't sustained very well,
unfortunately.. oh well.  A very poor pre-charge segment.

"Boy" at 6:46 after a great scream that sounds like Trey had some help
from others (or at least from an effect of some sort).  Mike is pretty
active in the WUDMTF segment... good segment.   Tramps segment comes
in at 9 minutes.. Mike is signalling for the tramps moves.  Page is
noodling/grooving well in here.  Nothing amazing, though.
Jam segment squeaks in at 10:52.. Trey is very quietly noodling, with
only Fishman in the background at first (like many summer 94
versions). (damn, fades out to side B!!!! ;^[

Oh well. Page and Mike come in steadily on a reasonably pleasant theme
that Trey has built after about a minute or two.. around 13:30, Trey
is somewhat low on the 'doc, soloing on a theme which is reminiscent
of Mind Left Body in part (but which is NOT MLBody..).  Around 13:50
a real YEM groove finally develops, and Trey starts wailing away,
albeit quite repetitively.  At 14:44 or so Trey starts repeating a
lick from what's that damn piece called.. somewhere in "The Nutcracker
Suite."  All of you have heard this before.  Pretty cool quoting, I
think... well placed..

The jam goes absolutely crazy around 15:20 or so, though.. starts
getting very chaotic and decentered.. hmmm.. foggy ending..

Basically bass and drums at 16:30 (Trey had sustained out the jam
segment with effects, and he's also screwing around for the first 30
seconds of the B&D segment.. just b.s. though.. nothing cool imo).
Mike is really shaky until about 17:15 when he starts repetitively
funking away.. Fish isn't doing that much, either.. some more effects
from Trey, it sounds like (digital delay crap.. nothing interesting,
imo.. some digihorn noises.).  Mike starts ripping out some licks
around 18, but it is all repetitive.. just a lot of CRAP in here, in
my opinion.  A noisy soup of miscellaneous sounds.. Fish is nailing a
cow bell (while steadily keeping the hi-hat flapping).. Long segment,
but not that engaging, imo.

Closing WUDMTF segment at 18:58.  Vocal jam.. some pleasant
harmonizing around all sorts of fun mouth/throat sounds.. Nothing
especially noteworthy, though.  Some fun harmonizing on "Ha" ...
briefly. ;)  Around 22:42 the vocal jam sounds so much like the
Yerushalim Shel Zahav beginning I thought they could have launched
right into that.. but no.  Nice vocal crescendo ends this version!  No
segue into Great Gig in the Sky..  Total time basically 23:33.

This jam segment was pretty damn weird.. too much CRAP improv in it,
in my opinion, to give it too strong a rating.  I liked the first
several minutes of it a lot, though.  I really don't think this is an
exceptional or even awesome version of YEM.  But it isn't exactly "run
of the mill" either.. B-/C+ rating.
