2/7/93 Lisner Auditorium, GWU, Washington, D.C. This would have been
the only "Brain" I'd ever seen *live*. But I
skipped this local show, because I hadn't got "it" with Phish yet,
and didn't want to spend the $. I'm definitely hoping for Brian
or Bike at the Park City or Red Rocks gigs, but I'm not holding my
breath. ;( WOW! This pre-Nirvana segment contains a little
repetitive, melodious theme that is quite gorgeous... an extremely
mystically pleasing pre-Nirvana segment. And the crowd is
fortunately not clapping along! (there is a lot of screaming in here,
though) Nirvana after many stop/starts with the build
(crescendo/diminuendo, stop..), finally, at 4:30. Good.. Mike's solo
section is very melodious and captivating. Not terrifying as
it often has been in the past and IS. The charge and shots at The Notes
are all very good, though not as dramatic as 2/3/93.
"Boy" at 8:01. Back to the usual WUDMTF.. .well, a clear "Wash your
feets" in here from Trey. Good jammin in this segment,
though.. Tramps jam at 10:13. Page is, AGAIN, very active, as he was
on 2/3/93. Just goin OFF! Mike's laying out the signals.
Very strong tramps jam! Jam segment basically starts around 12 minutes,
and the jam sounds at first like it might launch into a
serious How Many More Times (Zepplin) jam, but it doesn't. By 12:40,
Trey is noodling in typically YEM jam segment
fashion... kinda similar to the "Spooky" theme of the 3/14/93 YEM (and
the 12/31/95 Weekapaug) at times, though no teases
of Spooky itself. Just the style.. very cool! Lotsa Fish in here, too!
He wails spectacularly between the Spooky-esque licks. An
all out raging YEM jam by 14:15, which continues to BUILD.. fantastic
climax to this jam segment!!! OUCH!!!! B&D at
15:24, and Mike rips it up right away, funking out a DANK GROOVE...
yeah!!! He keeps up this same theme for the whole
jam, but gets a bit more severe towards the end. At 17:12, final WUDMTF
segment. Vocal jam kicks in at 17:28 after some
Fish screams. "Cactus" at one point.. Pretty blah vocal jam, imo..
around 19:50, they start "Clementine" up.. sluggishly.. "Oh my
darling.. Clementine" Blllllgggggpppphhhhggghh... 21:54 total time.
A-/B+ for this YEM. Well above average..
