One of my favorite shows, Binghamton 3/20/92 has an
astounding Mike'S Groove, and easily receives the
best rating of any MikeS Groove reviewed TO DATE.
Before the MikeS, Trey teases 'Roundabout' by YES,
not to mention says HELP ME I'M MELTING, AND I CAN'T
SOLIDIFY. Sure, Trey has never dosed before. ;^0
This is a typically eerie and spooky MikeS, but it
slogs on for quite awhile and has an energy level
that was never matched by any of the 1991 versions
that I reviewed. Nothing terribly interesting
occurs, frankly, but there is a higher energy level
than normal. It is not tooo long for 1992, ending at
about 7:26 mins or so. H2 kicks in at this time.
Trey snorks around with distorted notes at H2's
beginning before entering into the theme with Page.
Takes his time. The H2 theme basically doesn't begin
until 8:20 or so... otherwise a standard H2.
Weekapaug kicks in at around 10:30, and it wails from
the very beginning. Mike's opening jam is really
distorted with an intensely sinister sound, yet it is
still snappy and tight in Marco Esquandolas fashion.
Really cool opening. Thanks Mike! Great jamming
from everyone, plus some AAAAA-OOOOOOing from Mike
and Trey (practically yodeling in here, folks). This
is a smoking Weekapaug! The jamming really Goes
Places, and doesn't just squirt around here and
there. Trey sounds like he is thrilled to be opening
set two with a trip to Weekapaug!!! By 14:30 or so,
the jam is on fire and REALLY starts soaring. Just
magnifiscent at this point, but then again, this show
is all-hallowed:
I: Reba, Brother, Glide, Rift, Fluffhead > Maze,
Lizards, Mound, Antelope
II: Mike'S > Hydrogen > Weekapaug, Sanity, Sloth,
Mango, Cavern, Uncle Penn, Harry, Terrapin, Possum*
E: Lawn Boy, Fire
* Possum is preceded by Trey explaining the "Secret Language"
God DAMN this Week jam is hot. After a minute or two
of relative calm around the 16 min point or
thereabouts, the jam really takes you skyward... you
are dining on f@cking moon cheese by the 17 min
point. Just after 18 mins there's an OOM PAH PAH
signal, and the Scream-On-A-Different-Note signal.
Then, just before they go into the final Week chorus
MAKE!! MAKE!! MAKE!! there's a brief On Broadway
tease from Trey. Make. Then Sanity. SANITY!!!!
Make. Wow! 19:56 or so total time. 7.5 rating,
MAKEs easily the best MikeS Groove reviewed to date
(B+). Famous orgasmic (literally!!) vocal jam
closure to Sanity at this show, taboot. Make.
