3/15/91 Gothic Theater, Denver, CO (Rvwd 5/95) MikeS is straightforward
(i.e., good, no bullshit, but not at all exceptional). It ends at 6 mins
or so. H2 is similarly plebeian, but the Weekapaug is ASTOUNDING!! Trey
is absolutely magnifiscent, and travels all over his Languedoc, with eye-popping
dexterity. It's a sick jam, folks, just sick. No teases, no outrageous
bs, but straight genuine Weekapaug. It is extremely short, though. This
is the shortest Mike's Groove reviewed to date at 13 and a half minutes
or so total time. Since the Weekapaug was SOOOO good, though, I have to
give this a strong rating (although it is from the mold of the Old Weekapaugs..
i.e., improvisationally challenged, when compared to more recent versions).
C+ ... This Week is sooo great, though, really.. it is so short,
but worth a hear. Trey is profoundly moving (the others are, too, but as
you know, in these older versions, it is clearly Trey leading the Week).
There's a beautiful Hood at this show, too, fwiw.
